John Samonas chooses Green’s to optimise boiler performance on key carrier

Established in 1966, John Samonas & Sons manage a global fleet of dry bulk carriers which transport a range of commodities including iron ore, coal, and agricultural products. Efficient operation of its vessels is key to the company’s success, so when it came to light that some of the tubes had failed on the Samjohn Dream’s Aalborg economiser, one of its key carriers with a deadweight of 206,610 MT, quick and professional replacement of the faulty equipment was vital.

Waste heat recovery system and economiser specialists Green’s was called in to manufacture replacement parts, after which it met the ship at Drydocks World Dubai where Samjohn Dream was due for its five-year survey. It was while the carrier was dry-docked that the replacement of all 27 H Fin economiser coils occurred. Green’s manufactured the coils and had them Lloyds Register of Shipping (LRS) approved in just 16 days.

John C Samonas said, “Green’s previously worked on Samjohn Liberty, and we were impressed by their problem-solving skills and their ability to complete projects in a way that fits
in with our tight schedules.”

From proactive inspections and surveys to reactive repairs and spares supply, Green’s provide an array of global, fast and reliable aftermarket services so that its marine and land customers’ boilers, economisers, and waste heat recovery systems continue to work efficiently.
